The super sport mid engine category bikes like CBR600RR and Ninja ZX-6R are not imported as the high import duty of 120 percent on CBU(completely built up) is applied to them, which takes up their cost to more than double and the price range goes up into the 1000 cc range, which when imported as CKD(completely knocked down) matches the prices. The confusion is solved by bringing only those bikes which are high end(15 lakhs and above) as CBU’s as they have a segment of buyers who care less for the amount being paid. Only those bikes which have a assembly line in India are imported as CKD for the 600 cc segment to keep the cost as low as possible.
