How do birds find their way while migrating?

Well if you've seen the pattern they fly in they usually fly in kind of an inverse triangle shape and there's usually one bird at the front. I think that that bird has flown the rout many times before so now he's like the head bird and he guides all the other birds in what to do. So then the other birds gets trained while flying with the head bird and when the head bird passes on he chooses another bird to be a head bird. Or if he dies I guess all the other birds just elect a bird amongst themselves or maybe just the biggest bird becomes the new head bird.
